How Recuperative Thermal Oxidizers Work
Recuperative Thermal Oxidizers utilize a combustion chamber and a proprietary shell-and-tube heat exchanger, designed to optimize temperature, residence time, and turbulence—the three critical parameters for effective thermal oxidation.
- Primary Heat Recovery – Process exhaust gases pass through a heat exchanger before entering the oxidizer, pre-heating the incoming air and reducing the burner’s natural gas consumption.
- Secondary Heat Recovery – Waste heat from the oxidizer is used to support a secondary process, such as an oven, washline, or curing system, often generating enough recovered heat to eliminate external energy sources for these processes.
- Optimized Thermal Performance – Operating temperatures typically reach 1400°F, with residence times of one second to ensure complete VOC oxidation. Higher temperatures are available for chlorinated compound destruction.
