Catalytic Thermal Oxidizer for the Emission Controls for Chemical Processing of Ethylene Oxide
The Challenge
As part of a major plant expansion, a global specialty chemical producer approached Epcon to provide a cost-effective solution to effectively treat Ethylene and Ethylene Oxide emissions from their new processes. Equally as important to meeting the performance requirements was the ability to meet the tight turn-around timeline for this facility located in the Mid-Atlantic region.
The Solution
Working together with the plant engineers, Epcon’s experts proposed a compact and energy efficient Catalytic Thermal Oxidizer (CTO). Leveraging Epcon’s decades of experience with Thermal Oxidation the team designed a compact L-Shaped CTO with propriety process stream, dilution and combustion air inlets, which deliverd the guaranteed destruction removal efficiency (DRE) of 99% to comply with Federal Regulations, Title 40 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Completing preliminary start-up and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at Epcon’s Factory insured that the system could be installed, started-up and commissioned in the shortest possible time window.
The Results
The system arrived at site in sync with the customer’s aggressive turn-around plan and kept the operations in compliance with out any fees or downtime.
